In Amman, Jordan, apartment buildings dominate the urban landscape, yet often lack aesthetic appeal and architectural coherence. These structures frequently feature a mishmash of decorative elements borrowed from various historical styles, failing to evoke a sense of place or time. Furthermore, they do not showcase the technological advancements or building techniques of the region, nor do they reflect the evolution seen in contemporary architecture worldwide. There's a noticeable gap between the existing architectural fabric and the potential for innovative, contextually relevant design solutions.
To address this disparity, a study was conducted to explore innovative approaches to enhancing the visual appeal and functionality of these buildings with minimal architectural intervention. The focus was on developing three distinct proposals for the building's facade, aiming for a contemporary aesthetic that integrates seamlessly with the urban fabric of Amman. These proposals prioritize cost-effectiveness while seeking to introduce variation and richness in design, moving away from rigid mathematical patterns towards a more organic and responsive architectural language.
